Creating 3D plumage is truly challenging. There's little available material showing how to do it. Generally, there are random tutorials that don't show you everything you need. With the experience gained during my journey as a 3D artist (and paleoartist), I was able to develop a method for creating the plumage of my creatures using Blender, an incredible and powerful software, in conjunction with Substance Painter, considered by many to be the best texturing software on the market.

In this complete course, you will be guided through the entire creation process, from scratch to the final render.

This course is ideal for 3D artists and paleoartists who want to improve their skills and understand the complete workflow for developing feathered creatures.

* ATTENTION: To make the most of this course, it is important that you already have at least a basic level of proficiency with Blender and a computer that can comfortably handle both software programs (Blender and Substance Painter).

Creating beautiful feathers isn't enough. We need to create functional plumage. To do this, you'll learn how to create a plumage system using GN, which makes the process much easier and faster compared to Blender's old particle system, commonly used for plumage. Furthermore, it's a very lightweight setup.

Hi, my name is Kelvin. I've been a 3D artist for over 10 years. Since then, I've been running Kelvin Art Studio.

It all started when we combined our passion for creatures and environments with the incredible tools of 3D. It's rewarding to be able to create beings and places that we can't see in real life, thus breaking down the barriers of imagination.

In the studio, we work on creating characters, environments, and assets, in addition to offering online consulting and mentoring*.

What are the minimum computer requirements? [IMPORTANT]

What are the minimum computer requirements? [IMPORTANT]

What are the minimum computer requirements? [IMPORTANT]

It's important that your computer can comfortably handle Blender and Adobe Substance Painter. We'll be working with real-time sculpting and texturing, so read this section carefully for a smooth experience.

Below is a brief performance analysis, considering the two most hardware-demanding steps: sculpting and texturing.

SCULPTING (Blender): In this step, if your computer doesn't perform well in Blender's Sculpt mode, you can use other sculpting alternatives, such as ZBrush. This software allows for good performance (even with a large number of polygons) on less powerful computers. In this case, I recommend sculpting the model in ZBrush and exporting an .OBJ file to Blender and proceeding with the following steps (many artists use this workflow).

TEXTURING (Substance Painter): It's important that your computer meets the minimum requirements for Adobe Substance Painter. You can consult this at:

https://helpx.adobe.com/substance-3d-painter/getting-started/system-requirements.html

Regarding the computer I used for the workflow presented:

The entire workflow for creating this course was recorded on a machine with the following configuration:

i7 4770 - 32GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz - RTX 2080 8GB (yes, it was a somewhat old configuration). Below is a brief analysis of this configuration:

>> Processor: most current processors will perform well. I used an i7 4770, and it's quite old, so most current PCs probably have something faster.

>> RAM: 16GB is the minimum amount I recommend. The more, the better, obviously. Especially for the sculpting stage. For the Velociraptor, I used a PC with 32GB of RAM, but if you have less, you can work with lower subdivision levels or use ZBrush to sculpt and then continue the following steps in Blender. I've created beautiful works sculpting with 16GB, just by reducing the subdivision levels in Blender and optimizing the workflow as much as possible. But, as I said, I recommend using ZBrush if you have performance issues when sculpting in Blender.

>> GPU: To follow the course, your PC must have a GPU installed. Regarding my GPU, I used an RTX 2080 to create the Velociraptor. It's a somewhat old card, but it still gets the job done. Most current GPUs are more powerful than it. I don't recommend AMD GPUs, as unfortunately AMD doesn't have the same technologies that NVIDIA offers for professional 3D software.

If you have any questions about your machine's capabilities, even before purchasing the course, please contact me so I can analyze your configuration.
